A THING ABOUT COMMITMENT

Any business you are in, commitment is absolutely necessary for the sustenance and long-term development of the business. Commitment refers to any kind of sincere binding whether it is a moral responsibility or legal obligation. If you are committed to do any action not only to your customers or potential customers, but also to your superiors, subordinates and colleagues you should perform that in the specified time. Otherwise it creates a negative impression for your and your organization’s image.

If you are not fulfilling whatever you have promised, you will be called as unprofessional and from next time onwards the person will not believe you. We can discuss it with a very common and day to day example. Suppose you are going to a vegetable vendor regularly. You need 10 K.G. of potatoes for a big celebration in your home. The vendor has promised that on the specified day he will provide you what you want. But on that day he refuses to provide that much of potatoes to you. And because of that you are feeling insulted for canceling the party. Will you ever go to that man again? I don’t think so. Because of his lack of commitment he loses a vital customer.

Think it in a broad sense. In a big organization also, it happens. But here the lack of commitment affects in a big way. In this case, your reputation, which you have earned after years of hard work, can be at stake. Taking your customers into consideration, in most of the cases, it is not their requirement to have a deal with you. Rather it is your need to close the deal in a positive note with the customers. They may have a number of options. But you can not afford to lose even a single account (customer).

With position and power come responsibilities. Anybody who is having those should look back and see what are the responsibilities and commitments he/she has and he/she should try to take those and find out better ways to fulfill those. The individuals as well as the organizations while getting bigger and wealthier should be up to the mark with their commitments.

Thus, I want to say here if you are committing something, fulfill it. Otherwise do not commit anything. For longer and healthier relationship in a business scenario, commitment is the only way to keep it intact and then success will definitely kiss your feet.

It was October 2009 when I saw the trailer of AVATAR for the first time. From this movie my expectations were very high. The main and probably the sole reason was the behind AVATAR. James Cameroon, after making the 1997 cult classic TITANIC, has taken a long gap of 12 years before returning to the silver screen with the 2154 MAGNUM OPUS AVATAR. I was taken aback by the glimpse of amazing visual effects I saw of AVATAR from the trailer. Finally on December, the movie saw a worldwide release. When I saw this visual extravaganza, I knew it was one of the finest cinematic experience I ever had along with KING KONG. The lush world of PANDORA, the wonderful and beautiful NAVI tribes and the futuristic yet primitive battle scenes made me hold my breath.

Frankly speaking, the storyline was nothing special. It follows the exploit of JAKE SULLY, a US MARINE who undergoes AVATAR program and is converted into a NAVI alien. At the same time he develops a bondage with the tribe and falls in love with NEYTRI and finally decides to fight for his adopted home against the greedy human race who is after a mineral deposit which lays under the settlement of NAVI. The movie uses many path breaking technologies when it comes to visual effects. I liked the movie very much but never expected that the movie would shatter all the box office records. The movie surpassed the record held by another JAMES CAMEROON MOVIE TITANIC of being the highest grossing movie of all time. It became the first movie in the entire history to earn revenue of more than 2 BILLION USD.

AVATAR became the frontrunner for this year’s OSCARS. It has earned itself 9 nominations including best picture and best director. Running alongside is THE HURT LOCKER which is a WAR THRILLER. It follows the missions of a 3 member BOMB DISPOSAL SQUAD of the US ARMY during the 2004 Iraq invasion. This movie has its fair share of thrilling moments and can be coined as a masterpiece. But according to me, the best movie is INGLORIUS BASTERDS. What more can you expect from a genius like QUENTIN TARANTINO whose movie PULP FICTION is my favorite movie. BRAD PITT is the major star in this WORLD WAR spaghetti movie but CHRISTOPHER WALTZ as HANS LANDER steals the show. This movie has earned itself 8 Oscars nominations. Whichever movie wins the awards, for me all these three movies are winners. They define every aspect of movie making in a vivid and near to perfect manner. While AVATAR continued to break every barriers of technology and is a magnificent display of visual and special effects, THE HURT LOCKER describes a hard day at office for a soldier at a battlefield in a dangerous yet thrilling and realistic manner. Inglorious basterds is a hard hitting entertaining movie with dialogues being a very strong point.

INDO PAK- A SINGLE LIFE APART

The year was 1947 when thousands of Indians faced an identity crisis after the BRITISH RAJ decided to divide INDIA and form another new Muslim Dominated nation named as PAKISTAN. This decision was followed by mass protest somewhere and was welcomed somewhere. Further blood was added to this boiling issue by HINDU-MUSLIM and SIKH-MUSLIM riots. This was well portrayed in the blockbuster movie GADDAR.

The following years saw this issue reaching more heights of tension. The subsequent wars in 1948,1965,1971,1999 wars are testimony of how the two countries and also the entire international community are unsuccessful in resolving the main cause of the dispute i.e. KASHMIR. But have we questioned ourselves who are the persons from both the countries hating each other. Is it the government or is it the people of these two large dominions?

These two countries have great potential to emerge as powerful economies. KARACHI COMPOSITE 100 is one of the largest stock exchange index of the entire world. KARACHI and LAHORE are becoming the investment darling for the cash strapped CORPORATIONS from the ARAB WORLD. Pakistan has a rich culture just like INDIA when it comes to food, clothes, manners or lifestyle in general. The ONE KM. LONG FOOD STREET in Lahore is a symbol of culinary choice the PAKISTANIS have. The ever rocking music bands from

Pakistan

are a continuation of the great PAKISTANI MUSICAL LEGACY. But lately talk shows featuring individuals like war strategist ZAEED HAMID who is a regular feature in the Pakistani media increases the friction of hostility between the two nations.

From the Indian side, efforts like SADAA-E-SHARAD bus service from DELHI to LAHORE or SAMJHAUTA EXPRESS train from ATARI to LAHORE acts as a catalyst in the relations. The sharing of culture in entertainment field is a melting point of hatredness in the relation between these two nations. The successful operations of many Pakistanis in INDIAN HOSPITALS are gesture of friendship towards Pakistan. But still everyday rockets and mortars are being exchanged from both the sides on the FRONT.

This issue can be resolved by promoting bilateral trades as there are many anti social parties who are benefitting from this hostile standoff between these two nations. Education in both these nations will ensure the eradication of poverty and in a literate society it is difficult to create dangerous ideologies which would harm the nations in a potentially great magnitude. We, the people should realize that boundaries are drawn but human spirit is above all. Let’s hope that both the countries go hand in hand in the peace process and the white dove fly peacefully around the world.

BATTLE ROYALE

India may sound a land of poor masses and starved urchins but this beautiful country had faced countless wars in its heart. It’s own children have fought for their own greed and many times martyrs have laid their lives to save this holy land. No place in India describes better than KASHMIR or PANIPAT. While the former is continuously subjected to modern warfare, the latter saw 3 major battles which redefined the Indian history.

The first major battle to be recorded was ironically on our homeland i.e. KALINGA

The furious annexation of KALINGA by a hot blooded ASOKAVARDHAN MAURYA or ASOKA saw the death of over 1,00,000 lives including royal soldiers and civilians. This tremendous loss of lives changed ASOKA’s mindset to embrace the teachings of LORD BUDDHA. The first battle of PANIPAT saw the clash between the forces of an AFGHANI chieftain BABUR and The sultan of Delhi IBRAHIM LODHI.

Babur had a force of only 8000 men while Lodhi had a 1,00,000 men strong army with 300 war elephants. But the decisive point of the battle was the use of field artillery by Babur. The sound of artillery made lodhi’s elephant panicked and they tramped their own men. Thus with that battle, the foundations of the greatest empire in India was built. After 30 years, on the same plains of PANIPAT again the MUGHAL empire under the leadership of a teenager JALAL-UD-DIN MOHAMMED AKBAR and his guardian GENERAL BAIRAM KHAN faced a brave and strong SAMRAT HEMRAJ VIKRAMADITYA or HEMU. Defeat was almost inevitable for the Mughal forces but Bairam Khan with a small troop of army shot an arrow straight to the eyes of Hemu. Seeing their leader almost dead, the forces lost their morale and finally the war was won by AKBAR. The battle of PANIPAT in 1761 was one of the biggest battle in the 18^th century. It was fought between the MARATHA CONFEDRATION and an AFGHANI invader AHMED SHAH ABDALI. The former turned up with a army of 70000 men including infantry, civilians and Pindaris. The latter came up with 42000 cavalry,48000 infantries and 200 cannons. The battle was waged for the capture of DELHI SULTANATE. It resulted to the defeat of MARATHA CONFEDRATION.

India had been a mute spectator to many bloody wars. Unfortunately till now also

The best way out is to polish yourself with ample talent and knowledge and portray a sign of optimism no matter how much mud the world throws at us. Movies have co-existed with us since the last century and it has been part of our society and many times influenced certain actions of our society. Today movies means big business and it involves lots of money. As we travel through various technological advancement phases, new forms of entertainment were innovated. Among these one of the striking forces are VIDEO GAMES. In my previous post, PASSIONATE ABOUT GAMING I had mentioned about some distinct video game titles which has made some impact on the entertainment sector. In this post I am going to discuss about how some video games are source of inspiration for movies and how some video games are themselves nothing sort of a blockbuster movie.

In MID MAY 2010, WALT DISNEY is going to release PRINCE OF PERSIA THE SANDS OF TIME which will be produced by JERRY BRUCKHEIMER of THE PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN and TRANSFORMERS fame. This movie is based on PRINCE OF PERSIA game in which a young Persian prince who has a dagger which allows him to set the course of time saves his kingdom from an evil villain from invasion.

Nowadays, video games in terms of storyline are no less than movies. Take for example the critically acclaimed ASSASIN’S CREED in which a bartender’s mind is read by his ancestral DNA in which his ancestor Altair’s exploits is followed. ALTAIR used to be an assassin during the CRUSADES in the MIDDLE AGES. He assassinates 9 targets who were involved in the creation of a war between SALAHADIN and KING RICHARD. The game takes place in JERUSALEM, ACRA and DAMASCUS which were in reality the mainstay of the CRUSADES. Such advanced storyline can inspire any movie studio to spin off a blockbuster movie. Another great example is MODERN WARFARE 2 which was made with a budget of 40-50 million dollars and is expecting a revenue of 1 billion dollars. This game takes place in a modern world war setting in which US and RUSSIA fight against each other in urban settings and also nuclear bombs destroying the INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION to disrupt communications. Games like sabouteur which focuses on 2^nd world war in a sandbox free world environment or FARCRY 2 in which the player takes on revolutionary forces and armies of a battle ravaged AFRICAN NATION also add to the believe that many times games can be a source of inspiration for MOVIES. And how can we forget the phenomenal HALO by MICROSOFT GAMES. A movie project was planned by PETER JACKSON of THE LORD OF THE RINGS and KING KONG fame but it was called off due to the requirement of heavy budget.

So these are some instances which showcases that even video games can be profitable businesses and can be an inspiring source for BLOCKBUSTERS. Hence we can put it this way that video games are nothing but INTERACTIVE BLOCKBUSTERS.

AN INTERNATIONAL EPIC

This beautiful blue planet EARTH is covered with lands which have vast stretches of lush greenery, high mountains, small streams of waters and mammoth water bodies. The entire globe is diversified geographically. There are places where there is only sand and in another there is only snow. During the Jurassic ages, there were only empty lands with only animals and plants. But after the evolution of human, empty lands became kingdoms and borders were drawn. The intelligence of human have also given them ways to divide the land which belonged to only one domain called MOTHER NATURE. Today, there is a USA, RUSSIA, UNITED KINGDOM, INDIA and CHINA with their own flags, cultures and their own set of indifferences. The great EARTH which once boasted of its individuality has TODAY, due to her most advanced race of children is divided into 7 continents. The continents are further divided into nations. Each nation has a brighter side but unfortunately also a dark side. This is where my story begins.

I’m Mohammed Rizwan. I’m from Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. My father runs a carpet shop and we always get enough to keep ourselves alive for the struggle with the life in India. I am lucky enough to be staying in Hyderabad which seems to be in the centre of economic development in India. I saw how IT took over the reins of the economy and the transformation of this NAWABI SAHAR to CYBERABAD. As an Indian, my Mathematics and Science basics were strong and that let me get an admission in INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, KHARAGPUR-the best one and after 4 years I qualified myself as an ENGINEER. Even before I got my DEGREE CERTIFICATE I got a job offer from an U.S based company which was among the top notch company in IT sector. The convocation happened and I was ready to join those millions of Indians who had left the World’s largest democracy and the World’s 12th largest economy and culturally, one of the richest nations but economically one of the poorest (ironically) of the world to earn money outside. Thus the time had arrived to move to the second continent that I’d been which North America is and the country was none other than UNCLE SAM’S nation.

Days have passed and I remember about my mother crying while seeing me off in the airport. I was equally nervous about the fact that how UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is going……..sorry……..gonna welcome me. As the Boeing 777 of the Fly Emirates was preparing to land I saw skyscrapers. Tall man made mountains which defied the nature made me realize that my destination is near. TOUCHDOWN and the next moment I was in JFK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT and the name of my destination was NEW YORK. I joined my office and noticed that every American colleague were well cultured and behaved. Healthy work culture prevailed at my workplace. But who could forget MAA kya PYAAR and DAL ROTI. Still days passed and I saw the Statue of Liberty which till today celebrates freedom and welcomes thousands of immigrants who come to this land of opportunity to pursue THE AMERICAN DREAM. I got accustomed to the quintessential U.S culture. I had McBURGERS at McDonald’s and washed it all down with a glass of COCA-COLA. I purchased a Chevrolet’s sedan and went to LAS VEGAS to play poker and enjoy my night watching SHOWGIRLS and EXTRAVAGANT

CASINO. I went to GRAND CANYON to admire this awestruck beauty of the nature. I felt the cosmopolitan atmosphere of TIMES SQUARE in New York where if you stand for only 30 minutes you’ll get to see people of varied nationality. I saw MANHATTAN where real estate costs more than even a man’s life (kidding). I saw in AMERICA the best Human brain can offer.

After 8 years, I decided to head back to India. From India I was selected to join a team of Indian scientists in MAITRI-the Indian Base in ANTARTICA which is built to carry out scientific expeditions. So I took a flight to a place named AUSTRALIA which is the world’s smallest continent. DOWN UNDER I witnessed a beautiful place which like India has unique wildlife with animals like Kangaroo, kookaburra and Koala. Sydney’s OPERA HOUSE and IRON HARBOUR BRIDGE reflected the transition of a continent from a prison land to an Economical Powerhouse. And of course on the way to ANTARTICA I was lucky enough to enjoy a cricket match on BOXING DAY with a glass of FOSTER’s Beer.

From Christchurch, New Zealand I took off by a small CESSNA plane to MAITRI. ANTARTICA. The entire continent has known only one color for hundreds of years which is WHITE. Right from day one I had to freeze my ass off as temperature was dipping below day by day. Man, the warm base looked like paradise when I and my team used to come after a hard day’s or rather a chilly day’s work. We were also lucky to see AURORA lights in winter nights. The only sign of life we saw in this vast snowy desert were PENGUINS and SEALS.

I reached India after 3 months in Antarctica. On board of the QANTAS flight, I met a gentleman named SAYED WAHEB who is Egyptian by origin. He was a tall, sturdy and broad chested handsome man who seemed to be in his late thirties. He told me about his profession as an Arabic teacher in various schools all over the Middle East. He understands the culture of Middle East. He discussed with me about the various issues related to India like Kashmir, economic development and poverty. I realized that he was a learned and intelligent person. Then he suddenly changed the dimension of his conversation towards a common thing between both of us which is our religion ISLAM. Our plane made a stopover of 5 hours at Malaysia. There I was having a sip of Coffee at a restaurant when he came to me again and invited me to a nearby hotel room. Inside that room I saw lots of CDs and two shady characters. The CDs contained video of an ISLAMIC leader saying some inspiring slogans. Sayed talked to me about the atrocities committed on Muslims by Hindus during riots, the KASHMIR issue and the WAR ON TERRORISM. He tried to convince me that we all have to teach the western world and other non-believers infidels (KAAFIRS) a violent lesson. He sounded so convincing that I began to feel that I was not made for India but for my religion. At last he told me that he work for an organization which has waged JIHAD (holy war) against infidels. The organization goes by the name PRO JIHAD ORGANIZATION (PJO). After that day, my meetings with many active members of PJO took place by internet and Phone. I was getting brainwashed as I became a complete follower of PJO’s philosophy and ideologies.

Then finally the chance came to travel MEDELLIN which is located in COLOMBIA,SOUTH AMERICA. The basic purpose was to oversee a deal which involves PJO supplying opium grown in AFGHAN-PAK border to the MEDELLIN DRUG CARTELS who will pay astronomical amount of money to PJO for arms purchase. The MEDELLIN CARTEL, CALI CARTEL and many other organized crime syndicates operates in SOUTH AMERICA which is a haven for COCAINE, MARIJUANA and other drugs producing activities. The drug lords maintains their own supply and distribution network which leads to NORTH AMERICA which is the market for them. The powerful cartels have top government and military officials inside their pocket. So opium produced by Asians in VIETNAM, NEPAL and AFGHAN-PAK borders get supplied to these cartels who distribute these in US, CANADA and EUROPE. So my first assignment was to establish a connection between PJO and MEDELLIN CARTEL and facilitate the transactions.

Time passed by and I became a globe trotter. I left my family forever in India to join PJO as an active operative. PJO was supporting a warlord named ABDUL SIAD in SOMALIA. I had to go to MOGADISHU,SOMALIA where I have to supply arms and ammunitions to SIAD. Thus I traveled to the DARK CONTINENT AFRICA which is my sixth and reached SOMALIA in one bright afternoon. I was escorted by 2 gunmen by a jeep to SIAD’s headquarters. On the way, I saw people firing at each other. The BLACK HAWK HELICOPTERS of the US AIRFORCE were patrolling in the sky. Some of the buildings were razed and others had large holes from Bullets and ROCKET SHELLS. Yes, welcome to the poorest continent on Earth where majority of nations are crippled by civil wars. The deal went smoothly with SIAD as I moved around his gigantic and palatial headquarters which had limousines and swimming pools in a place where majority of people couldn’t find food. At the streets there were shops which sold bullets. Before leaving Africa, I got a call from my old friend and mentor SAYED WAHEB who told me the big day has come to strike a blow on west and make PJO heard in the entire world.

The target was OLD TRAFFORD, the home stadium of MANCHESTER UNITED and the date was on the FINAL MATCH OF ENGLISH PRIEMERSHIP LEAGUE between MANCHESTER UNITED and CHELSEA. I went to ENGLAND and landed in HEATHROW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. There I went straight to SOUTHALL area which is ASIAN DOMINATED area of London. There I and 3 of my associates who were all Pakistanis by nationality rented an apartment and stayed. We prepared the explosives with chemicals and all other essentials. We had already bribed 3 guards in OLD TRAFFORD and our plan was to plant 6 bombs in the washrooms. When the explosions will take place in a packed stadium, people will panic and run here and there and a stampede will be inevitable. So there will be a chance of maximum casualty in this high profile sporting event.

The big day arrived and we first prayed and then took a cab to OLD TRAFFORD. This is where I am now. Until this part, the entire story was just a flashback of how I started my journey from India and traveled all seven continents all over the world. As I was moving towards my destination, I saw LONDON TOWER BRIDGE, THE PARLIAMENT BUILDING,THE CANARY WHARF and INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTRE which are London’s most famous landmarks. But suddenly I noticed that 3 police cars were following us. My friend Rashid pointed his gun towards the BLACK CAB’s driver and told not to stop. The police seemed to know where we were going. That’s why they had placed spikes on the road which bursted the taxi’s tires. Before I could realize anything Salim, another associate kicked RASHID and the gun fell out of his hand. Salim ran out of the car. I immediately realized that Salim was an informant and he betrayed us. The entire mission is now jeopardized. The police arrested me and Rashid and AFZAL, my 3rd associate.

Today, as I am continuing my days at a maximum security prison in UK, I begin to recollect that I have seen the best and worst of this entire world. It’s not the countries which make the world an example an utopia of economic and social development or an inferno of raging war, hunger and poverty but it is the PEOPLE residing in the countries who claim to be the most advanced species on the planet. I had chosen my destiny of being a person who strongly believed in ideology of JIHAD which was wrongly and intentionally interpreted by some leaders as war against infidels and it should be done by terrorizing people. I, MOHAMMED RIZWAN, am closing my story here which knew no boundaries. It started from the streets of HYDERABAD which was filled with the fragrance of BIRIYANIS and traveled through the BLUENESS OF PACIFIC, the HUSTLE OF TIMES SQUARE, THE EXPLOSIONS IN A TYPICAL SOMALIAN LOCALITY, THE FREEZED WATER BODIES OF ANTARTICA, THE GREAT BARRIER REEF DOWN UNDER, THE AMAZON RAINFORESTS OF SOUTH AMERICA and others.

Internet has opened the gates of a world of entertainment, services and information to us. By far it is one of the greatest innovation for which the world’s greatest invention computer has found its many application. Internet is accessed by millions or maybe billions all over the globe every day. Internet has gone through many groundbreaking phases and is continuing to do so.

I’ve been an avid user of internet for various reasons ranging from watching video to online share trading to booking tickets. But one website has, is and will continue to captivate my thought . The name is WIKIPEDIA. The philosophy behind this amazing web based encyclopedia is that KNOWLEDGE IS FOR EVERYONE. It was founded by JIMMY WALES, an American in 2001 through the WIKIMEDIA FOUNDATION. The foundation is an entirely non-profit organization. Let me share with you some facts that makes WIKIPEDIA simply the best. It is the world’s 5th most visited website and runs on a budget of only 10 million dollars unlike its counterparts like youtube, orkut which runs in hundreds of millions USD. Wikipedia’s total number of employees are, hold your breath, only 35. But it has around 2 million contributors who writes, edit and updates the articles. It is the largest encyclopedia known to human history and is growing every day. And another respectful fact is WIKIPEDIA despite being such a popular website is free from any kind of advertising. You can never find an advertisement or pop up on WIKIPEDIA.

WIKIPEDIA is so named after the concept of WIKI.which means a website which is free to use and edit.WIKIPEDIA is visited by 350 million people every month which almost 1/3rd of the total internet users all over the world. Previously I used to visit wikipedia only when I was given an assignment in college and I had to find materials for that. But today I have highest regards for JIMMY WALES and WIKIPEDIA which provides free knowledge. Everyday I come across many terms and WIKIPEDIA is capable of explaining all those terms. Wikipedia is really a website worth respect and I am highly indebted to wikipedia which I considered as on eof the best thing that happened to internet along with GOOGLE search engine. Destruction is hard to experience but fascinating to watch. We don’t want a meteorite to hit the Earth or a massive earthquake rocking our existence. But when we see those things in movies like 2012 or ARMAGEDDON, we like it and they become blockbusters. Often I wonder what could be possible reasons by which the world faces mass destruction within a snap of fingers. The occurrence of following events may create instant mayhem and would result to APOCALYPSE.

1. If all the satellites goes down at a single moment, numerous planes and choppers flying over the skies will miss the link between themselves and ATCs.

2. If one nuclear bomb falls on a civilian area, then possibility of Third World War will be there which will be a nuclear war and within seconds world may get destroyed.

3. If any extraterrestrial race comes to earth and decide to wage war on us with their superior technology.

4. If any cosmic body like asteroid or meteorite hits the earth, then it will create an impact of thousands of nuclear bomb and the entire face of humanity will wipe off from the Earth.

In my post named “THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT A MOVIE,” I had mentioned about how one can know about world issues from movies. Movies are after all the reflections of our society. There were different genres like WILD WEST, HORROR, ACTION, COMEDY, THRILLER, ROMANCE. But lately, I’ve been seeing too much of SPY movies. JAMES BOND stands out as the most famous spy ever. But my point in this post is not discussing about him. It is to discuss rather about some of the disturbing things about US policy in MIDDLE EAST which often forms the subject of many HOLLYWOOD HITS.

The other day I watched RIDLEY SCOTT‘s BODY OF LIES which starred stalwarts like LEONARDO DI CAPRIO and RUSSELL CROWE. The movie deals about CIA (central intelligence agency, USA) and Jordan’s GID (general intelligence directorate) relentless pursuit of a terrorist leader and the double crossing game played by CIA. The movie portrays a strong yet erratic picture of how USA deals with its contacts in Middle East and how it dumps them after the use. Another movie SYRIANA starring GEORGE CLOONEY and MARK WAHLBERG shows how deceiving US government can be for OIL. It can kill the royal family member of an OIL RICH NATION; it can make dangerous double dealings with anybody and in this process can fool even an agent who is so loyal. And it’s not better to mention about the controversial documentary FAHRENHEIT 9/11 by Michael Moore which established conspiracy theory of the 9/11 attacks and was one of the small yet effective reasons for George W Bush’s stepping down as US President. SPY GAME starring BRAD PITT and ROBERT REDFORD is another classic example of the dangerous manipulations US intelligence makes in its MIDDLE EAST operations. And I’m not going to forget all those violent and gory images and video clips of terrorist beheading their hostages and captives which millions of people see in news channels or in the internet. These shows the various atrocities man commits to fellow men.

These movies showcases that not even the Americans trust their intelligence agency when it comes to fair play. Is the CIA so cunning and inhuman when it comes to COUNTER TERRORISM combat? If the answer is YES, then what is the difference between those terrorist who at least claim their responsibility behind the attacks and CIA who is doing everything in a hideous manner. It is high time the entire world takes notice about this as movies are indeed the reflection of life and all this maybe happening in reality while I’m sitting comfortably inside my hostel room and writing this post and listening to DJ TIESTO.

As an avid lover of music, I couldn’t help myself from writing something about music. Music is a form of entertainment which has co-existed with or I must say within us for centuries. Music has evolved a long way. . Such is the power of music that in spite of political indifferences, Pakistani and Indian musicians are performing together. Music has the power to dissolve all boundaries and it knows no language barriers. Otherwise why the entire world would have listened to RICKY MARTIN’S UN DOS TRES which is a Latin track. All the UK’s major nightspots are hitting BHANGRA tracks. MICHAEL or MIKHAEL JACKSON is a household name in INDIA. Further, channels like MTV, VH1 and CHANNEL V have made sure that the entire becomes musically very informed and have varied the choices of people regarding music.

Coming to the global music scene, there has been a sea wave of change in music styles on every passing decade. Rock music has evolved from soft ones like CUTTING CREW, FOREIGNER to heavy guitar and bass combos like LINKIN PARK, LIMP BIZKIT. The sources of music are also fascinating. Take for example GANGSTA RAP which contains explicit language and often aimed to be a rebel to the system and society. It has its foundations from the streets of NEW YORK and LOS ANGELES. We are odias and we have a rich culture and heritage. It’s evident from the presence of temples, Odissi dance, our cuisine,etc. But have we asked ourselves a question.? Are we good businessmen?

Except from some examples, the answer is unfortunately NO. Just take a look in our cities. Whether it is Bhubaneswar, Cuttack or Angul. Everywhere the top businesses are owned by non-odia speaking people most commonly Punjabis,Haryanwis or Marwaris. I mean to say its not a harm if anybody sets up business here as we all are Indians but the question still lies with us why odias are not proving themselves to be good businessmen or entrepreneurs. Take for example BHUBANESWAR. The largest jewellery shops like LALCHAND,KHIMJI or EPARI are owned by non odias. The famous saree shops like KALAMANDIR, BANARAS BEAUTY are owned by non odias. Majority of exclusive garments showroom are also owned by non odias. I don’t want to sound like any MNS worker ad I’m against any division among races inside states.

Let’s give a thought on the possible reasons for this questions. Igot some from the activities of petty shopkeepers.

POOR CUSTOMER RELATION: odia businessmen always practice the process of short sightedness. They always try to shell some extra bucks out of a first time customer who would have been a long term customer. Thus when the first time encounter gets soar, the customer doesn’t come again and the businessman loses a customer.

LACK OF CONCERN TOWARDS BRAND LOYALTY: odia businessmen think that since the customer is loyal to us, he/she has no alternative so he/she is forced to buy from us. Therefore we can always ignore them and concentrate on newer customers. But what they fail to see is the fact that existing customers do more business than the new ones.

Still odias like DILIP RAY (already from a rich family), BANSIDHAR PANDA and many other have proved to be a successful entrepreneur. Even the legendary BIJU PATTNAIK was also an entrepreneur with a distinct vision. But we,odias have to think for long term solutions and we cannot ignore the power of customers and the need of customers relationship management.

NOVEMBER 29,1987........It maybe an insignificant day for the world but for me it is the only day in the year when the world make me feel special. That day i was born and today i have spent 22 years of life on PLANET EARTH. My friend SHOVAN DASH wished me in advance and told me maturity means how much you have learned from your experiences and not from how many birthday you have celebrated. I couldn't agree more to that fact. I've seen ups and downs in this journey and am still expecting more such varied experience to happen and make me a learned person. Well, i have designed this wallpaper and have written something which i thought would be appropriate to make my birthday an emotional occasion. I am writing this article not as a nostalgic emotional fool but as an optimist who believes that all good things must come to an end to make way for another good things or maybe better things. The other day I was thinking about my school and college days. Let’s start with my school days. Boy, life was so easy and complications were very less in those days. All we had to worry about was homework, friends and pocket money. Life was a bed of roses at that time. I was lean, thin and cute at that time. But the day I joined the college, I began to realize that the world is not as dazzling as it was during my school days. Behind dazzle, laid the darkness of wastage due to alcoholic consumption and smoking. Oops I’m talking like a parent. Sorry, behind the dazzle lies even more dazzle.

What’s life without a pop of beer? As an advertisement says, CHEERS TO LIFE, yes, guys should have a beer dominated youth which has to be complimented with endless butts of cigarettes strategically concealed inside a bottle.(This is STEREOTYPING and I have never smoked or drank in my life). Fast food has to be taken in a regular basis as we come of age and regular outings with buddies demand that. Dirty jeans, chains, bracelets, sandals strap-on, funky shades are all part of the GREAT FASHION BRIGADE which rules the youth arena. Love is the greatest emotion during this time and it gets ample opportunity to blossom in the college or anywhere else. And with love comes mobile phone, regular recharge reform (RRR) and the tradition of giving. Hostel life is a life to cherish as almost everybody’s dream of 24 hours SOCIAL INTERACTION with friends become true.

Then suddenly I realize that I’m 22 and I have to shape up a career. I have to get involved in the raggedy filled world and have to be a negligible and minute part of the INDIAN ECONOMY. Really the fun days, the teenage days, the hassle free days, WELL GONE ARE THE DAYS……..

"THAT ONE STEP FOR A MAN IS A GIANT LEAP FOR MANKIND", these are the historic words which NEIL ARMSTRONG told to EARTH after placing his left foot on the surface on moon at 2.56 am UTC on July 21, 1969. Today the nations have united themselves to unravel one of mankind’s greatest curiosities. Man has always wanted to know what lies outside our planet. Today, the technology required has been achieved as on 1969, NASA send 3 men to set their foot on MOON.

In 2011, the INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION will be fully operational. It is a joint project by NASA, European Space Agency, Russia’s MIR space programme and Japan’s KIBO. Many satellites hover around the orbit of the Earth to help us in telecommunications, TV transmission and other experiments. India’s ISRO is no exception as it launches its INSAT satellites in PSLV (POLAR SATELLITE LAUNCH VEHICLE). Also India added another chapter in history by becoming the 4th nation to plant its flag on Moon’s surface with the successful CHANDRAYAAN-1 which although ended abruptly due to technical fatalities but has succeeded in achieving all major objectives. The Indian government has also planned for sending a lunar rover vehicle in the next phase which is named as CHANDRAYAAN-2. Chandrayaan-1 was instrumental in finding traces of water on moon’s surface. NASA has already send MARS rover to the red planet. It is also believed that INDIA’S SOLAR PROBE which is known ADITYA is expected to be launched in 2012. Even private ventures like VIRGIN GALATIC has already planned for space tourism in the year 2010 and surprisingly all the tickets of the first flight is sold out.

The sky may be very high but it is no match to our levels of nature defying curiosity which even challenges that we will conquer THE SKY SO HIGH.

The term ethics is a rage nowadays. After the collapse of big business houses like ENRON or WORLDCOM, this term needs to be redefined in the minds of the people. Ethics is the means for which we get a clear conscience and can sleep well in the night. But it is said that the greatest responsibility an individual faces in his/her life is the burden of his family. And If for the sustainance of his family a man has to compromise with ethics then it may look reasonable and justifiable for many.

Great philosophers and thinkers like SOCRATES, ARISTOTLE and PLATO commented heavily on ethics but that time was different. At that time the world was not a global village and the class of people had less or nothing to argue. They lived, traded, fought wars and harvested. But today it is the “DOG EAT DOG” world out there. A lesson in ethics or two might garner less praise and raise more eyebrows. It’s hard to be a completely pure ethical person in this world. The entire system is filled to the brim with the cancer of red tapism, high handedness of elites, corruption and other residual malpractices. The biggest sufferer in this vicious process is the honest man who for his honesty may make the society stand against himself. Thus a RAT RACE gets created of what we say the life cycle of a human. If we, as a government employee don’t accept bribe then we may not be able to meet the needs of our children. If we, as a employee of any private sector tell the truth then we may be exposing some of the company’s secret which will lead to bankruptcy and the loss of many jobs. If anybody will not be selfish then other selfish persons will rob him of the opportunities.

But still, we should always remember that this world and our existence is governed by the ALMGHTY GOD who keeps into account all our sins committed. Modern thinkers may say it is just a belief but isn’t it wonderful that how a single belief on God’s existence has bind billions of people and gave them power to make judgments of what’s wrong and what’s right. We should always do things which are mandatory for our survival but we should also notice that such activities should not harm others At the end of the day, I must say that DO THINGS WHICH YOU THINK IS RIGHT but before doing that take a deep breath and give a deep thought about your family, country and MANKIND.

To understand this topic, you have to know what is the real meaning of friendship and love. First of all I want to tell you that it is not related to any person, rather it’s based purely on my own perception. Any resemblance is treated to be purely coincidental.

Friendship means exchange of knowledge, affection, respect in between 2 or more people. True friendship comes from the degree of loyalty to each other. If you explain it in the manner of physics, it is the covalent bond i.e the strongest bond between the persons. But in case of love, the emotion, strong affection and attachment comes.

Yes , there is a relation between friendship and love, for that we say that the friendship is the stepping stone of love. Several times I become confused to see the relation between a boy and a girl. It becomes a question whether they are friends or lovers?

I agree to the fact that not only same gender but opposite gender can be friends. If a boy is good friend to a girl, they can share many things with each other. But in my perspective, the amount of time spend with each other can be an affecting factor. If 2-3 hrs per day are being spent with each other, then it’s friendship. If they are spending more than 5 hrs a day, then what it is? If a boy is always helping the girl then what is that? In that case following situations may arise-

 Either they are closest of friends
 The boy has some weakness towards the girl
 The girl is simply taking advantage of the boy
 Both are in love.

I don’t want to say anything about the point 1 because it maybe a rare case. The next 2 points means one sided love and the girl is using the boy. The last point is the best as both are unable to express their feelings towards each other because both doesn’t know what each other are thinking.

So let’s put some focus on the 2nd and 3rd point where the girl takes advantage of the boy. The girl uses the boy and then after the job is done dumps him. These type of situation is very common in real life. So it’s a humble request to you for opening up your eyes and mind. Friendship is good and love is even better but one-sided love is disastorous.

As a resident of bhubaneswar, I always get to travel to CUTTACK which is 25 kms from us. Never had I given the thought that CUTTACK would be such a charming and above all a place which has originality. One fine sunday morning me and my brother went to watch the movie 2012. But after seeing such a massive crowd at the movie hall, we decided to return back. Gone are the days when we used to do fight the world just to get the first day first show ticket. Now as I’m approaching 22, neither I have the desire nor I see any rationality in doing that.

So we still had 2 hours before we should settle down for a lunch at a restaurant. So my brother told me let’s go to CUTTACK and have a visit. I said ok. Previously I had been to cuttack for various reasons but this was for the first time I went to cuttack to only cruise around. Well, the ride at NH-5 was smooth as we passed various industrial establishments, an array of car showrooms which displays the booming consumer base in India, private educational institutes and lots of unorganized shops. We reached PAHALA which is a must stop for every sweet lover. The rasgullahs were always a gourmet’s delight. After a drive of about 20 minutes we reached CUTTACK.

After reaching Cuttack, we took a left turn to a road named LINK ROAD. It is aptly named as this road connects CUTTACK to NATIONAL HIGHWAYS and it is a link.
Going straight ahead the link road will make you reach BADAMBADI- the bus stand of cuttack. There you get to see Cuttack’s most famous commercial complex- BHARATIA TOWERS. One thing I observed about Cuttack is the presence of financial service organizations which is more in number than BBSR. Then you take some turns and you will reach RING ROAD. It is named because it covers the city and it is in a circular shape. As you drive on the ring road, you get a good view of MAHANADI river located side by side of the road.

BUXI BAZAR is the main market of CUTTACK and the market has a thin crowded lane for accessibility. It seems CUTTACKIANS love the road as never any extension plan is done on that road. Another great feature in cuttack is the presence of colonial buildings of BRITISH ERA. It really makes CUTTACK a mini KOLKATA. And majority of houses have shops downstairs. The grand HIGH COURT offers a majestic eye candy. Cuttack has full of never ending lanes which ends in RING ROAD. And CUTTACK loves DAHI VADA and ALU DUM as they prefer this dish over anything else for morning or evening.

CUTTACK has original people unlike BHUBANESWAR and is a perfect example of communal harmony as HINDU, MUSLIMS, CHRISTIANS live in peace and brotherhood. Developed areas like CDA SECTOR tells about the economic development. But still CDA unlike BDA is faced with the challenge of limited scope and area for development. DESPITE OF LOWER INFLATION and DEFLATION WHY THE PRICE OF MANY CONSUMER PRODUCT SOARING IN INDIA?

In India inflation is measured by using Wholesale Price Index (WPI) Model. In which inflation is calculated by taking basket of hundreds of common goods. The price increases is multiplied with their weightage or their relative importance as a percentage of consumer spending.

There are 435 commodities in India to form a part of the “Basket”. Data on the price level of each of these commodities is tracked through the WPI which is an indicator of movement in prices of commodities in all trade and transactions.

But prices of different commodities rise at different rates. So if items of higher weightage cost less (showing low inflation, like electronics products) and certain other items (of lower weightage like vegetables) cost more, the overall inflation rate will be reflected as low. However consumers will end up pay more for some commodities despite of being inflation rate is low. Like it is happening in India to the price of vegetables.

What’s wrong with India in case of measuring inflation?

· Wholesale price index (WPI) doesn’t properly measure the exact price rise and end consumer will experience because, as the name suggests, it is at the wholesale level.

· The main problem with WPI calculation is that more than 100 out of the 435 commodities included in the index have ceased to be important from the consumption point of view.

· India constituted the last WPI series of commodities in 1993-94, but has not been updated till now, so the effect may be expired.

· WPI is supposed to measure impact of prices on business. But India uses it to measure the impact on consumer. Man commodities not used b the consumer gets calculated in the index.

To understand the above let us get overview on the difference between WPI vs. CPI

Wholesale price index (WPI)-

A Wholesale Price Index (WPI) is the price of a representative basket of “wholesale goods”. The Wholesale Price Index focuses on the price of goods traded between corporations, rather than goods bought by consumers, which is measured by the Consumer Price Index. The purpose of the WPI is to monitor price movements that reflect supply and demand in industry, manufacturing and construction. This helps in analyzing both macroeconomic and microeconomic conditions. The wholesale price index consists of over 2,400 commodities globally.

Consumer price index (CPI)-

The Consumer Price Index measures prices of a selection of goods and services purchased by a "typical consumer”. The inflation rate is the percentage rate of change of a price index over time.

For instance, in January 2007, the U.S. Consumer Price Index was 202.416, and in January 2008 it was 211.080. The formula for calculating the annual percentage rate inflation in the CPI over the course of 2007 is

211.08-202.41/202.41=4.28%

The resulting inflation rate for the CPI in this one year period is 4.28%, meaning the general level of prices for typical U.S. consumers rose by approximately four percent in 2007.

What is the composition of the WPI in India?

The WPI has an All Commodities Index, which consists of four three major groups - Primary Articles; Fuel, Power, Light & Lubricants; and Manufactured Products. These are again broken up into smaller sub-groups. For instance, the primary articles group would have food articles, non-food articles and minerals. Each of these sub-groups would have several individual commodities in them.

All told, the current WPI tracks prices of 435 commodities, of which 98 are primary articles, 19 fall in the fuel, power, light & lubricants group and 318 are in the manufactured products group.

The WPI has been periodically revised from the time it was first constructed in the 1930s and for obvious reasons the weights have moved progressively in favor of manufactured products.

The current index, which uses 1993-94 as its base year, has weights of 22.025 for primary articles, 14.226 for fuel etc and 63.749 for manufactured products.

Madhur Bhandarkar was born on 26th August 1968 in a Maharashtrian Saraswat Brahmin family; Madhur Bhandarkar ran a video cassette library in Khar (w), a suburb of Mumbai. This gave him access to a large collection of movies and he studied film making through it. He first start his carrier as a assistant director. He made his directorial debut with 'Trishakti' which took more than two years to complete and released in 1999. After two years he directed 'Chandni Bar' (2001) starring Tabu and Atul Kulkarni. The film was a critically acclaimed success, which took Bhandarkar into the top league of filmmakers in Bollywood. He received his first National Award for this film.
Madhur Bhandarkar is known for his socially relevant and hard-hitting films. "I just show what happens in society" - Madhur Bhandarkar said in an interview.he got three national award for his three socially relevant movies. Madhur’s first National award was for Chandni Bar, which was selected as Best Social film, for the year 2002. Than came Page 3, which changed the entire stature of Madhur Bhandarkar. This film, apart from winning him rave reviews, also won the National award in best Feature Film category. Film Traffic Signal became his third in a row National Award, as he is announced as the best Film Director of 2007, for Traffic Signal.
Madhur's movies have always tried to enlightening the audience about the darker aspects of life is it in the corporate world in Corporate, the political games in Satta or the challenges of the media world in Page 3. In most of his films Bhandarkar has made the female the main central character. This has been seen in four of his films: Tabu in Chandni Bar, Raveena Tandon in Satta, Konkona Sen Sharma in Page 3 and Bipasha Basu in Corporate.
In an interview he said "My movies are not exposes, maybe they just hold up a mirror to society. My movies are not judgmental; I just show what happens in our society, sometimes there could be a solution and sometimes there may be none. Life goes on."
The year 2008 saw the release of his expose of the Fashion world, by his film 'Fashion' starring Priyanka Chopra , Kangana Ranaut and Mugdha Godse in lead roles. As a B-SCHOOL student, I came across many technical terms like SIX-SIGMA. I couldn’t get anything about 6 sigma when our faculty tells about it. When I made a relentless pursuit about that term I came to realize the importance of that term in modern day business.

SIX SIGMA is actually the improvisation of the process output by eliminating the root causes of the errors in the production process and thrives on achieving stability in the business process. Six sigma was first used by mobile giant MOTOROLA and by 2006, it had saved a whooping 17 BILLION USD. Furthermore, it’s early users include HONEYWELL, the engineering and consumer goods giant and it also helped in achieving massive profits for GENERAL ELECTRIC and for GE it was adapted by JACK WELCH which made him an international sensation. Six sigma is done through DMAIC and DMADV which involves many quality management tools and they should be utilized within the parameters of DMAIC and DMADV.

Numerically and technically speaking, six sigma is the process where the chance of defective parts is 3.4 per million opportunities. Six sigma refers that if six standard deviations between the process mean and the nearest specification limit is achieved, then there is no chance of an item of failing to meet its specification. In India, MUMBAI DABBAWALA has adapted this method to achieve accuracy. But not every time six sigma has rosy pictures. A FORTUNE RESEARCH suggests that out of 59 large companies adapting six sigma, 91% of the companies are lagging behind in the financial performance as indicated in S&P 500. But still six sigma is a very coveted process which global industries respect and trust.

GHOSTS, SUPERNATURAL FORCES OR EXTRATERRESTIAL LIFE. When we hear these terms we dismiss it as something superficial, superstitious or just our imagination gone vivid. But still, at some corner of our heart, every human have a doubt regarding the existence of such things.

Let’s do some case study about GHOSTS. It is said that some former U.S. Presidents have witnessed the ghost of the GREAT ABRAHAM LINCOLN in some corners of THE WHITE HOUSE. The castles of SCOTLAND are filled with ghost stories and are a hub of paranormal activity. There is a house named as THE AMITYVILLE HOUSE in USA where the occupants complained of some demonic presence. That incident inspired the making of a blockbuster movie by the same name. In India also there are lots of instances where the existence of ghosts and supernatural forces are believed. Processes like BLACK MAGIC, SORCERY, etc, have risen from these thoughts. The existence of GHOSTS is still debatable.

EXTRATERRESTIAL LIFE remains another unsolved mystery. Be it the ROSWELL VIDEO HOAX which showed a fake autopsy of an alien or the discovery of an odd shaped dead body in the ANDES or the numerous sightings of UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECTS (UFO) all over the world, these incidents have strengthened the thought that there are existence of life beyond this planet. Recent sightings of UFO near LADAKH also can be attributed.

Whatever these maybe, before dismissing these thoughts as mere superstition, we have to give it PERHAPS…..A 2ND THOUGHT.

In short friends are like two chemicals if they mis matches then it blasts and if matches they make a solution. Friendship is not mean that agood human being make a good friend because u can take an example that when two magnets positive sites come together the repel and a positive and negative always attracted .Friendship is not make by forcing any body it happen.you can make a lot of friends in short span of time by interest on them rather interest them on you.
In the earth nothing is certain it changes every minute like that we make friends childhood to end of life. During this time you grow up u make many friends in different situations. And u have to go away from them because of the time demand. Why we call a friend being a best friend because we can call him at any time in mid night also.and anather fact is that when a friend fells in love he can put the hand of his best friend and gets mental satisfaction. SO, here the topic is making its second rounds as MONALISA has once again decided to share her thoughts about me. This time it is as she puts it," HER THOUGHTS ABOUT ME AS A PERSON." I would really like to gratify her for putting so much effort and some rich, niche and affluent words to describe my personality. As people say, YOU CAN MAKE A BORING THING INTERESTING BY ADDING GREAT WORDS. These posts really made me even more personality conscious. On the dark side, i'm spending more hours in thinking about myself and yes, my EGO HAS BEEN INFLATED( plz don't try to deflate it).

ANOTHER REQUEST FOR THIS ENTIRE BLOG'S FOLLOWERS ARE I'M TAKING A LOT OF PAINS IN PROVIDING QUALITATIVE AND USEFUL THINGS IN THIS BLOG. Well I’m back again with an article. But with same topic “anurag sahoo” but with a different perspective.

After writing the first article on him I received a mixed response. Many of those who read it Praised it vociferously . But some said that it is some kind of testimonial that should be posted in orkut. This article in response to this gesture. Firstly what do we share in a blog? Its information about important topics or issues around the world. So my aim in writing the article is to share the knowledge that I have on the knowledge bank- anurag sahoo. It is fair enough coz it is not an article to praise him.

Coming back to the beguiled knowledge that anurag has name a topic that and u’ll get a full-fledged answer. If not a full fledged answer then a brief idea. But an answer is must. Here are a few instances. In a particular class our faculty asked a question about an eminent figure. Though eminent we didn’t have the answer but anurag was one who was to describe him with his designation. Be it a business organization or a NGO he has the crux.

But is that all? No he possess an astounding vocabulary…..Don’t believe? Have a chat with him on a all important topic and u’ll find him exceptionally flummoxing.

Now he is heading towards another journey i.e. creating his own quotations. Day will come when he will be remembered along with legends who gave famous quotes. His recent one being “ dress is something to cover the torso and uncover the personality” what a profound idea!!!!! Describing a nominal thing with minimal effort.

Anurag as a person

Well a thought how does this affect his esteem!!! Is he is a captive of superbia? This is not any kind of phobia . He is bestowed with an extremum personality a very modest and adown to earth guy. Ready to help anybody and everybody. Doest not complaint even when being overburdened or even by being falling prey at others hands. Bears everything with a smile. Now something about his smile!!!! Not an intoxicating nor inebriating but an elating smile, that is full with high spirits and optimism. U KNOW Y DIS IS SO? The smile reflects the pellucidity and purity of his heart. A jolly good and good-humored person.

Disclosing a reality of a different facet of his personality I would like to say that he is not only knowledgious but also a spiritual person. Portraying himself as a fun loving and a cool guy he is one person in this place who doesn’t leave his room or take his without worshipping before god. This may leave u dumfounded but this is an authenticated fact….

Well this phase of the article is describing ANURAG on a personal level. This was important because when we are intending to know something we should gain an all around knowledge about the particular topic. For me ANURAG is not a mere person possessing knowledge but a pinnacled persona of knowledge and motive behind writing this two article was paying reverence to unplumbed intelligence and also to make others gratify him for the noble work that he is doing.

It is said in this selfish world even brothers can be sworn enemies. The clash of powers often unleashes mass destruction of economies and loss of life and property. Today, in the 21st century, the time is being dubbed as the ASIAN RISING. Among the ASIAN giants who are poised to make the great leap to the SUPERPOWER TAG are TIGERS and DRAGON that are INDIA and PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA respectively. But lately, the relations between these two great powers have not been praiseworthy or progressive.

The SINO-INDO relations are very old and it dated to the days when FA-HIEN and HUEN TSANG came to INDIA to visit NALANDA UNIVERSITY. The Indians and the Chinese traded goods and the mode for the economic activities were by a route named as SILK ROAD or SILK ROUTE. Chinese immigrants also made KOLKATA their home as it is the only Indian city to have CHINATOWN.

MAO-ZEDONG and JAWAHARLAL NEHRU coined the statement that HINDI CHINI BHAI BHAI. But in 1962, the SINO-INDIA war spoke of a different scenario. The land dispute over TIBET and Tibetan BUDDHIST GURU DALAI LAMA seeking political asylum in HIMACHAL PRADESH were the major reasons for this war which came to an end after a UNILATERAL CEASEFIRE from China. Furthermore, the relations between these two country strained because of the SINO-PAK relation improvement and SINO-SOVIET relation deterioration.

On July 2006, INDO-CHINA RELATIONS got a major boost with the re-opening of the SILK ROAD with the new name NATHU-LA PASS. Today, once again hostilities between these two nations have resurfaced as China is trying to claim that ARUNACHAL PRADESH is their territory. • Answer is The Employee contributes 12% of his /her Basic Salary & the same amount is contributed by the Employer.

2. Is it Compulsory for the all the employees to contribute to the Provident Fund?
• Employees drawing basic salary upto Rs 6500/- have to compulsory contribute to the Provident fund and employees drawing above Rs 6501/- have an option to become member of the Provident Fund.

3. Is it beneficial for employees who draw salary above Rs 6501/- to become member of Provident Fund?
• Yes because provident fund contribution by the employer & employee is not a taxable income for Income Tax purpose.

4. you may have a question that, What if an employee while joining establishment has a basic salary of Rs 4200 and after some period of time his basic salary increases above Rs 6501/-, does he have an option to terminate his member ship form the Provident fund act?
• Don’t worry the solution is, Employee who while joining the organization has a basic salary above Rs 6501/- have an option to either become or avoid becoming member of Provident fund but employees whose basic salary while joining the organization is less then Rs 6501/- but after some period of time their basic increases above Rs 6501/- have to compulsorily continue to be member of provident Fund.

• : Nomination Form No 2 has to be filled to become a member of the Provident fund, form is available with HR department.

• You just have to fill form no 13 to transfer your P.F amount.

8. What is the provision of the scheme in the matter of nomination by a member?
• Each member has to make a nomination to receive the amount standing to his credit in the fund in the event of his death. If he has a family, he has to nominate one or more person belonging to his family and none other. If he has no family he can nominate any person or persons of his choice but if he subsequently acquires family, such nomination becomes invalid and he will have to make a fresh nomination of one or more persons belonging to his family. You cannot make your brother your nominee as per the Acts.

The Bombay stock exchange (BSE), as it is called the indicator of economic strength or weakness of the country was a very slow growing economy till the late 80’s. After India opened its door to the world in 1990, the economy picked up at a very rapid rate. We have seen financial crisis, high inflation rate and high crude oil price in the time of 2008-09.At the same time GOI did various plan to revive the stock market. Also at end of 1st Q, Economy is growing at the rate of 6.1%. Economics like china and India have weathered global crisis. Also we know that , India has a largest market and immense opportunities. We always need solutions in various sector. Also we have seen that most of companies have came up with new product for public in market. I believe that in recent time NEW PRODUCT means IPO i.e. Initial public offering. It means The first sale of stock by a private company to the public. IPOs are often issued by smaller, younger companies seeking the capital to expand, but can also be done by large privately owned companies looking to become publicly traded.

WHAT IS IT ?, Lets see

A stock market starved of enough good news turning up the decibels on the success of a few recent IPO. We know that allotment IPO guarantees a positive return. However, that’s misconception. In fact , investors are still carrying the baggage of the pre-liberalization era, when the controller of Capital issue used to decide how much capital a company can raise and at which price share should be issued. Typically, this price used to be much lower than what the company could otherwise have got. So the opportunity to make money at listing was much high higher,but the dynamics have changed completely. Now , it’s for the company to decide at what price it wants to sell its share, and investors should always keep in mind that promoter wil try to make the most of issue.

FACT BEHIND IPO

In the year of 2005, the total IPO hit the market, only 11.54% gave negative listing returns, while rest managed to remain the green .so, the chances of success were fairly good at around 90%.but the trend did not last very long. In 2006, 30% of total issues posted negative listing returns, so the percentage rose through 2007 and by 2008, about half of IPOs gave negative return on listing. The ipo drought of over a year was primarily due to bad market conditions.

IN THE TIME OF 2009

Most of experts have different opinion on the ipo market, one section is looking at the investors’ response towards IPOs of Adani Power and NHPC , which got oversubscribed around 21 and 24 times respectively. I believe that this two issue are indicating there is a revival in IPO market. In recent IPOs, the institutional and retail investor subscribed over 30 times and 2-3 times their allocated portion .in case of Adani power, the listing gain per share was no enough to cover interest cost. The listing of NHPC , from which investors had enough hopes, also failed to cheer the leverage investors. I feel, if listing gains from another 2-3 IPOs is not high, it may dampen investors’ sentiments. So investing in an IPOs would mean that you are there in the market for listing gains, while investing in a company would mean that you would like to hold the shares allotted in the medium to long run.

Buying the right stock at right prices is the key to investing.

Lakshmi Niwas Mittal was born on June 15, 1950 at Sadulpur, in Churu district of Rajasthan, in a poor family. The extended family of 20 lived on bare concrete floors, slept on rope beds and cooked on an open fire in the brickyard in a house built by his grandfather. Laxmi Mittal belongs to Marwari Aggarwal caste and his grandfather worked for the Tarachand Ghanshyam Das firm, one of the leading Marwari industrial firms of pre-independence India. The family later on moved to Kolkata where his father Mohan Mittal became a partner in a steel company. Lakshmi Mittal graduated from St. Xaviers in Kolkata with a commerce degree in 1969. He began his career working in the family's steelmaking business in India

L N Mittal left India in the mid-1970s to start his career. He was sent to Indonesia by his father to shut down the family's ailing steel plant and sell the land. Instead, young Mittal saw an opportunity and turned the plant around. To prove that this was no fluke, Mittal acquired a 1.3 million tonne, Iscot Steel plant in Trinidad & Tobago, which was losing $100,000 a day. One year of Mittal-style management and it was making profits, the LN Mittal legend was born. That move helped him get into America. In 1994 Mittal had differences with his brothers and father, and went on to form his own company. The following year Mittal entered the European market, acquiring the 5 million tonne Kazakh steel plant, Karmet. Meanwhile, Mittal had listed Ispat International on the New York and Amsterdam Stock Exchanges in 1997.

Failure & Success are the two most important words in this world. Failure is one of the most scaring words in the world. The very idea of failing is enough to stop most people from their tracks. It can cause the majority to simply pack up, turn around and retreat without even trying. Success is a magical word. Most of us want to be labeled by being called as a successful man. We always think about the reason for success of other people but do we ever go back & see the failures and rigorousness’s one has faced during the development stage. We have to believe that the reason for their success is that they considered their obstacles as an opportunity to move ahead by accepting the challenges in the right spirit. That’s why Henry Ford said:-
“Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.”
I think there is a secret behind this which we are all known but we sometimes fail to implement & follow. The secret lies in Patience. I recall one common story, where an arts student was being taught to learn a new set of movements & he asked his master how long it would take to master it. His master replies it would take two years, the student reflected that it was too long a period & enthusiastically offered to put in 200% of his time and effort. He then wanted to know how long it would take to master it. The master thought for a while & replied “my dear student it will now take 4years. If we want to success we need to keep patience”. That’s the secret of success, we should follow it.
“If we fail”:- this is the fear we always have in our minds. Little do we realize that fear of failure is one of the biggest obstacles to living a full & rewarding life. So the next question which may arises that “how do we overcome this? The answer is very simple, do the things we fear first. Take fear as a challenge, turn mission impossible to mission easily possible”. If you want to be more successful then “just double your failure rate”.
Remember one thing that, short term failures are building blocks for future success. The magical mantra that should be adopted by each one of us is that “failure is a stepping stone to success”, if we don’t move ahead we won’t learn the valuable lessons that we need to learn. Michael Jordan said:-
“I’ve failed over and over & over again in my life and that is why I succeed”.
Before accepting any challenge, many of us make statement that “it’s impossible or this is not my cup of tea”. Why is it that we have this kind of mind set? Instead why don’t we question our self, what skill do I lack which I need to overcome? Why can he/she does it & I can’t? We always make an excuse to take challenges. We have to set one thing in our minds that “impossible is nothing”.
We all known about the famous sayings that:-
“Winners don’t do different things,
They do things differently”
“Success is achieved by using the ordinary mind in an extraordinary manner”. If you want to be a successful person, then follow two great thoughts of Swami Vivekananda that is:-
“Stand up, be bold, be strong .take the whole responsibility on your own shoulders & know that you are the creator of your own destiny”.

Most of us waste our energy thinking about the past or think of the future while we are awake. The result is we miss our today. one undergoes lot of mental suffering, but why don’t we live in our present rather thinking the past that is pulling us towards it and frightening the tomorrow, which we have to face & which is unknown.
Just forget that you are a failure. If you forget this and take the opportunities that you are getting to learn, and adopt it for a better future.
“Failure is the pillar of success” –failure offers each of us the gift of learning, the ways and means of getting stronger. We are winning through losing; hence we cannot hope to become really successful in our lives unless we learn to fail well. Failure & success are shows us two things, “finding the positive power of failure will make you a successful business person” in business world & “the sooner we learn to face failure & regain control, the more successful our lives will be”.

Before posting this one, i just want to tell it is just the view of my friend MONALISA BISWAL, the topper of our batch. I personally think i don't match even the half of the description given in this article about me. Still it's great to have an article written on myself. And HATS OFF to MONALISA for using such remarkable words to give a shape to her thoughts about me.

Not a very handsome guy neither a hunk nor a heartthrob ….

But a person with unfathomed intelligence and this blog is the brainchild of him. To give a citation for him in these limited paragraphs is beyond my periphery. Yet thru this article I will try to encompass his intelligence.

A person who has brought all kinds of knowledge at our disposal through this blog, has a hands-on or should I say a first hand knowledge et al topics …u just need to name it .

He is “the man” who actually changed my orientation and view point towards knowledge. He made me realize the importance of possessing knowledge, taught me the art of imbibing fruitful knowledge and most importantly inculcated a feel-good sensation on learning the essentials. He is among the few men who have had a strong impact on my life and attitude. This is for the second time that I’m writing an article for anybody or rather I should say gratifying anybody. The first being about my school teacher.

ANURAG holds a hell lot of importance in my life. I do consider myself as one of the privileged person to possess talent but I acknowledge this person as being far ahead of me in the field of talent and endowments. This is not an article written just to merely praise his worth nor this piece of work be considered as a kudos. But being a batch mate it is a genuine appreciation of his bountiful knowledge.

The priced possession that ANURAG has is not god gifted to him but it has been explicated over the span of time by regular acquisition of knowledge. It can be said that he was gifted with a brain which he made appropriate use.

Knowledge , information and intelligence is possessed by different people but making an effective use of these at the right place is the task of a wizardry, a maven ,a virtuoso… that is what is ANURAG

Apart fro m this dimension he taught me another very essence of life and that is to take a chill pill even in tensed situation. I used to call it recklessness but his impact is so much monumental that it made me change this opinion. Really a cool dude and I myself idealize him in many aspects.

When the Britishers left India on August 15th 1947 midnight, the economy of India was in shambles. The world and especially Europe’s economy was devasted because the world was only 2 years old from the greatest war mankind had ever faced. India was facing an acute shortage of staple food materials and the Indian industries especially cottage industries were crippled by the Britisher’s exploitation.

The frontrunners of the Indian Politics were faced with a mammoth task of rejuvenating a once glorious but now destroyed economy. Due to several economic reforms like THE GREEN REVOLUTION which encouraged the use of high-quality seed in agriculture or THE WHITE REVOLUTION which made India the world’s 2nd largest producer of milk after Canada, India’s economy got a facelift.

Today, Indian companies share growth stories similar to global giants like SONY, PEPSI, etc. Let’s take some examples. The AMALGAMATED COFFEE BEAN TRADING COMPANY opened a coffee shop in Bangalore in 1996. Little did everybody realized by then that this will turn into a very popular brand called CAFÉ COFFEE DAY. This brand grew to 800 plus outlets all over India, Sri-lanka, Pakistan, Europe within just 13 years.

DLF’s Kushal Pal Singh saw a dream of transforming an under-developed area in Haryana into an urban metropolis. Today, the dream have been achieved as “WIKIPEDIA” refers GURGAON as the BPO capital of the world making DLF the world’s largest real estate developer.

INDIA INC is now respected globally as TATA-JLR acquisition or TATA-CORUS acquisition are consolidating the Indian company’s image as aggressive bidders. The day will not be far when more and more Indian companies will find a place in the FORTUNE-500 list. Our nation and the companies seem to follow the above mentioned rule strictly and relentlessly. The term “BIG KAHUNA BURGER” was immortalized in the 1994 cult gangster movie “PULP FICTION.” The movie showcased the US culture in a nutshell & burgers form an integral part in the US family gourmet. Mcdonald’s speciality is burgers and that is the core product which made Mcdonald’s an international rage.

Post globalization, India too embraced the burger culture as it is evident from the presence of Mcdonald’s in 30 indian cities. But hold on, India has already got a DESI version of burgers i.e. VADA PAO. The difference is instead of cheese slice, lettuce or meat steak, we manage with a chop of potato. They use ketchup while we use chutney. Till now, a common MUMBAIKAR was looking at a VADA PAO to satisfy his/her hunger. But the premium segment is attracted more towards brand and that is Mcdonalds. They prefer hygiene, clean and heavily advertised Burgers. Also eating out at mcdonalds has certain elements like style substance which Vada Pao cannot offers.

This is an example of how GLOBALIZATION helps us in loosing our own identity. Vada pao eating Indians are now suddenly burgers fanatics. Amul Kool milk spends more time in the racks of supermarkets than PEPSI/SPRITE. Sarees and salwars have taken a backseat as jeans have arrived in a big way for the girls.

But it is an independent and a capitalist country where people have got right to do any legitimate things. So, I have let the people decide whether they prefer to be INDIANISED URBAN or AMERICANISED DESI. I have deliberately drawn this comparision in the perspective of food as Mcdonald’s symbolizes US and nothing describes Mumbai better than VADA PAO.

It gives me immense pleasure to post my 20^tharticle in this blog. I am thankful to my brother, my friends and everybody else who have been through my blog and provided me encouragement. Time sure passes away and this blog is a testimony to that. I invite my friends, readers and anybody who has something to say or share in this blog.

I can’t understand why we, people of earning class, often satire a different class of our society called BEGGARS. We mock at them and look at them with utter disgust as if they are not human. We strongly disapprove and discourage their way of living. But we fail to see that behind them there is a story. The story which , whether we like it or not, has MARKETING, ENTREPRENEURSHIP and what not.

Let’s make an in-depth analysis which is unique in our country. First of all, let me ask my readers a question. CAN ANYBODY SAY WHO IS NOT A BEGGAR IN THIS WORLD? Technically speaking, the answer is NO. We, members of the IZZAT KA ROTI class, pray to God to get a job and have a steady income. Is it not begging? Every human begs and does it in a different way. The difference is since majority of the population is not begging so, we have forcibly assumed that our method of begging is socially acceptable. A beggar does it in a plain, stereotypical and in a way described in books because he has the courage to do so.

We pray to God to give us this or give us that. We should mock at ourselves. We should mock at the Entrepreneurs who don’t seem to learn anything from the beggars. BEGGING IS A BUSINESS OF SYMPATHY. If you are getting money, then why would you worry about the means. It is not illegal at least in our country. Coming to the marketing part, Yes a beggar does marketing of himself/herself and that too without any form of investment. A beggar motivates his target customers by emotion. He tries to draw their attention on him. He himself is the product in the market. He does field jobs. He tries to create a position in the mindset of the customers that they must pay him in order to get wishes (DUA) exactly like advertising. He is a psychological means for the people to wash off their wrong-doings.

All this they do without shelling out a single penny but on the contrary, they earn. He has confidence on himself than a CEO of any business firm. Success and failures are parts of his life. He has targets to fulfill every day. Target of whether to get enough to stay alive for that day. Financially analyzing, it is the only business in the world which is risk-free and offers returns. Maybe, a beggar is not an entrepreneur but he surely is a smart businessman. So, next time you see a beggar, try to find a case study of a B-SCHOOL in him. See him not as a dreg of the society but a follower of the discipline which is called BUSINESS.

FOOD WITHOUT SPICE IS A REMINDER OF HOW EARLY MAN WERE EATING. Spice is one of the sought after commodity which made The BRITISH EAST INDIAN COMPANY to travel such far off distant place like India. Spice trade in India includes trading of turmeric, chilies, peppers, seed spices, etc. India accounts to 45% of spice supply all over the world. Spice industry is an almost risk free business. From the chillies of Rajasthan to cinnamon of south, India offers a variety of spices to make your dishes a culinary delight. When it comes to spices, one name strikes our mind. The name is MDH or mahasian di hatti.

Ontogeny means growth and in this post I’ll write about the incredible growth story of MDH. The company came into existence as a small spice shop in 1919 at SIALKOT (now in Pakistan). It was owned by MAHASHAY CHUNNI LAL. Within years, the shop became famous by the name of DEGGI MIRCH WALE(pot chilly people). After independence and partition of India, his son MAHASHAY DHARAM PAL(the turbaned man we see in the ads of MDH) came to Delhi and opened up a shop in Ajmal Khan Road, KAROL BAGH area. The name of that shop was MAHASIAN DI HATTI DEGGI MIRCH WALE. The term means the shop of the magnanimous.

Initially the business relied on humans to process and ground the spice but then they automated their business by purchasing machines. Today, this small spice shop has grown into a position where it can touch the sky. As for this date, it has a capacity of producing 30 tonnes of spices every single day. It has manufacturing plants in UP, HARYANA, RAJASTHAN and PUNJAB. It has a network of 1000 wholesalers and over 4,00,000 retailers to sell its products. Besides this, it exports its product to NORTH AMERICA, EUROPE and AUSTRALIA.

MDH is also instrumental in charitable works. It has built a 250 bed hospital. It also operates a mobile hospital for slum and 4 schools. With these facts, MDH indeed offers
a story which has a SPICY ONTOGENY.

EVERY MINUTE THAT WE SLEEP

First of all the entire credit goes to an anonymous friend who has given such a funny topic. Complete humor have been added to make this post as much entertaining as possible.

“Every minute that we sleep”- it may be an incomplete sentence but the word “we” means the students and they can understand the value of sleep between the off-classes and the in-classes.

Let me share an example- In class and out class, there are huge scopes of sleeping for those students who think the class has no value addition to their life or feel that the lecture is not motivating enough to help them keep their eyelids open. It’s the pride of the BACK-BENCHERS who sleep every minute sitting in the painful chair in a painful posture. Those people are the soft targets for a faculty to launch an all round assault of asking questions- as it’s obvious to the faculties that the back benchers belong to the PREMIUM SLEEPER CLASS. But how come they never realize that like every leader has followers, so, every front bench have a back bench. It’s the student’s honesty to sit there and proclaim himself as the back benchers.

Another amazing fact about this great classroom activity is the types of postures that we inherit just to get a sleep. Some sleep open eyed like a predator, some cook-up an old aunt’s tale of “not feeling well” and the smarter segment prefer to take cover by deliberately sleeping behind the fattest kid of the class. They prefer to be in stealth mode from the teacher. Whenever they sit, they sit exactly at the back of their cover and all this includes some calculations.

Now coming back to the topic, out class sleeping is done on bed and mattresses. Before sleeping we always set up an alarm in our clocks or cell phones. Some people hardly get one or a couple of hours to sleep and some sleep so soundly that they miss their classes. But since setting alarm is a liability which is to be done, so be it. We never get up to the alarm ring. It’s our inner self which pulls you back to the bed and says “c’mon, what’s the heck? Maybe some few more minutes.” So, for that, EVERY MINUTE THAT WE SLEEP really counts.

Guys just guess what am I talking about? If You think it as AXE – the irresistible deodorant and its sex appeal, then you are absolutely wrong. I am talking about AXE- the destroyer of trees and its not so green appeal. I have tried hard to put emotions to this sensitive post. It is a question to be asked to each and every individual living on this planet. The axe effect on the environment is a cruel slap we are giving to planet earth which is our mother. While we are planning to colonize in moon, we have failed to notice that our own home is on the verge of destruction. The common man is lost in the journey to earn their GOD(money). It is true that “money can buy you a mare but it cannot buy you a life.” Leaders of 192 countries are all set to discuss the fate of earth in a conference this December at Copenhagen, Denmark.

The deforestation is an ugly process to develop any country but unfortunately it is our harsh reality and we have to digest this fact. The materialistic life of the human race has made us forget that every step we put out of our bed, car, office is on the surface of our planet. Even jets and helicopters fly but eventually they also have to land. But we are relieving our planet of its adornment. This is an entirely unacceptable process as we have got no right to kill any trees or plants as God has also bestowed life on them just as He/She did to us. We should realize that there should be an ecological balance between us and the plants. We should not forget that plants and trees can live without us but we cannot live without them. So, in this case we are the debtors.

I guess we are not far away from that day when we will see trees as a rare commodity being sold I a retail or antique shop for a high price. And yeah, I would advice you to watch the disaster scenes of DAY AFTER TOMORROW again and again if you want to get a feel of how our end will be. So, it’s better said that if we don’t mend our wicked ways to protect nature, then nature will punish us and will do it in an unimaginable way.
It’s better if we restrict the AXE EFFECT to deodorants and not a nature spifficating process.

With this facts backing our country’s image, let us put our focus on the upcoming URBAN INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS which promises to transform India from a rural based country to an citified fantasy. From the lands of paddy field to utopia of skyscrapers. Let’s take a look at a revitalized and revamped vision that is known as INDIA 2020.

TAJ INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ,NOIDA- is a proposed international passenger and cargo handling airport near NOIDA.

METRO RAIL SYSTEMS are being built in MUMBAI, BENAGALURU, HYDERABAD, PUNE and the existing lines in NEW DELHI and KOLKATA are being extended. Indian Government has decided to invest 2,00,000 CRORES INR by 2020 in metro rail construction. Moreover, monorail construction have already been proposed.

EXXON MOBIL- the name may not be as familiar to Indians as pepsi or mcdonalds. But this oil and gas major is, hold your breath, the world’s largest JOINT STOCK COMPANY. In 2009, it surprassed retail giant WALMART to emerge as the Rank 1 position holder in the FORTUNE 500. It is part of the six oil supermajors which also includes ROYAL DUTCH SHELL, CHEVRON, CONOCO PHILLIPS, BRITISH PETROLEUM and a French company TOTAL SA

It is formed by the merging of two companies- EXXON and MOBIL corporations. The amazing thing about these two companies are that these two companies took birth from the breakdown of the same company i.e THE STANDARD OIL COMPANY.

Now let’s me share some facts about THE STANDARD OIL COMPANY. It was an oil and gas founded by JOHN D. ROCKEFELLER, the wealthiest man ever. It achieved supernormal profits as it grew to demonic proportions. My friends always criticize me for preferring foreign movies to our own bollywood movies. Yes, I admit I do so. At first, I preffered only action movies but my choice changed. I find many foreign movies to be informative since they deal with international issues of various kinds. And through this, I also gained some knowledge about these issues which I would have never known otherwise. I would like to cite some examples. The highly-acclaimed animated Israeli movie, “WALTZ WITH BASIR” focuses on the horrors of 1982 israel-lebanon conflict from the perspective of a soldier. The Steven Speilberg directed Tom Hanks starrer 1999 classic, “SAVING PRIVATE RYAN” shows one of the largest military operation in the history i.e the INVASION OF NORMANDY by the allied forces during the second world war. The scene of that movie in which the landing of allied forces on Omaha beach is shown still gives me the chills in my spines. Another classic, the 2001 academy award winner BLACK HAWK DOWN shows modern warfare during the UN peacekeeping operation in Mogadishu, the somalian capital which took place in 1993 in which two US Black Hawk choppers were lost by RPG shots. Leonardo DiCaprio starrer BLOOD DIAMOND shifts our focus on the civil wars which have ravaged sierra leone and many other African nations and all these civil wars are financed by diamonds which are purchased by common people in Europe, USA and other countries. The 1984 Al Pacino starrer SCARFACE which achieved a cult following showcases the rise of a Cuban refugee to a rich druglord. This movie is based in 1980s Miami which was really the drug haven in the USA. Through this movie I came to know about the drug trade which has boomed in the US. Even a comedy movie like TROPIC THUNDER informed me about golden quadrangle of opium production which are Vietnam, Myanmar and spans to Afghanistan. The 1998 Academy award winning movie AMERICAN HISTORY X deals with the sensitive issue of racism in the cosmopolitan city of Los Angeles. And yes, how many people in India knew about dinosaurs before JURASSIC PARK was released. DAY AFTER TOMORROW provides a dangerous view of what will happen to the world if we get defeated in the war against global warming. The soon to be released movie 2012 also shows disasters to befall on earth following the predictions of Maya Calenders about the Doomsday( a term given to the day the world will end). The Mel Gibson directed movie, “APOCALYPTO” shows about the lives and wars of the native Central American before the Spanish invasion in the 15th or 16th century AD. It never hurts to know more about anything. After watching these movies, I came to know about these international issues. I would say what is the harm if you become a well informed citizen. Likewise, there’s something about a movie and for me the thing is INFORMATION.

Me and my family were in great dilemma while deciding for a place where we could spent our puja vacation of 2009. Then suddenly my mind flashed to a place in the Indian map which is probably the most isolated part of India i.e, ANDAMAN AND NICOBAR ISLANDS. It is an Indian union territory which is nearer to south east asian nations than the Indian mainland. This small archipelago territory doesn’t strike any chord in the minds of us mainland Indians but still my family gave a go ahead signal for spending our vacation there. Andaman and nicobar’s capital is PORT BLAIR which houses the territoty’s only civilian airport VEER SAVARKAR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. Port blair is connected by air from Chennai and kolkata. Also vessels like MV SWARNA DEEP which operates in high tides between Chennai and port blair can be of service. It takes 2 and a half hours by air and 3 days by sea. The majority of the population is Bengali or tamil origin. The capital is entirely cosmopolitan and almost everybody speaks good HINDI. So tourists will not have any communication problems. The weather is generally cloudy and windy and rain lasts for hardly 10-15 minutes. The A& N CONSISTS OF 576 islands while port blair is located at the SOUTH ANDAMAN ISLANDS. There are lots of economical hotels and restaurants provide every kind of dishes but sea food especially lobster and golden prawn is the island’s gourmet speciality.

Among the places of interest are HAVELOCK ISLAND which is among the top 5 beaches of the country. Just off the coast of port blair is ROSS ISLAND which was touted as the PARIS OF THE EAST. It accommodated an ENGLISH barracks. It is really fascinating to see the way or the style the Englishmen lived on Indian soil before independence. Ross island was captured by Japanese army during 2nd world war. LIMESTONE CAVE AND nature hike in MANGROVE RAIN FOREST in BARATUNGA is an unique experience to enjoy the flora and fauna of this beautiful island. The local boatmen can also take you to uninhabited and isolated island where you can spend hours in complete solitary and bliss enjoying the sights of miles of unspoiled white sands and blissful serene coral beaches. CORAL SPOTTING by snorkeling i.e underwater diving or by glass bottomed boats are a not to miss activity. Finally the greatest attraction is the CELLULAR JAIL- an epitome of tyranny by britishers and valourism of Indian freedom fighters. Coined as the ALCATRAZ OF INDIA or KAALAPANI( black waters) it was one of the most dangerous and alienated prison of the world where Indian revolutionaries like veer savarkar, mahavir singh and hundred others were kept and tortured everyday. There was a gallow where several prisoners were hanged to death. The light and sound show at the cellular jail will leave you spellbound as you will get to know about the dark history of the JAIL. Andamans is also home to many tribes like JARAWA TRIBES who are about 250-300 in number now. Lookswise, they are exactly similar to the African pygmies. They still live in the forest and has little or no contact with outside world. International societies like NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC or SURVIVAL.ORG has declared them as one of the most isolated tribe of the world. Besides all these, port blair is very clean city and offers amazing view of nearby island from the waterfront.

But everything has a flip side and ANDAMANS is no exception. Since the government intervention in the tourism sector of this islands is next to nil, majority of tour is operated by private business. They have formed a sort of cartel as they have associates everywhere starting from hotels to car rentals to ferry service to shops. The buzzword for the entire operation is MISMANAGEMENT. Tourists have been flocking to Andaman in large numbers but handling tourist has been a pain in the neck. One has to wait for hours for a ferry to get from one island to another islands.THE SUPREME COURT OF INDIA has put a prohibition of any tourist from interaction with any member of JARAWA TRIBE but still it is done. When any vehicle has to go to baratunga, it has to use ANDAMAN TRUNK ROAD which passes through the JARAWA RESERVE. So always a convoy of vehicles are made and that convoy is escorted by police.

But still, ANDAMAN AND NICOBAR ISLANDS remains as one of the best tropical getaway destinations of India which boasts of unspoiled serene beaches and monuments which speaks of the pre independence culture of India. Like I said it before, this place is the under rated paradise which carves for divine intervention from the government.

Internet is probably one of the best thing that happened to the modern world. Through world wide web(www), the entire world was opened to the eyes of a common person. My tryst with the internet began sometime in the year 2001 when I was in 8th standard. At that time the hourly charge of using internet was, hold your breath, Rs.40.
The first thing I saw in the net was……… its hard to mention. It happened because of the persuasion by some friends. But time and again, I find better use of the internet.
The most liked use of internet was on-line chatting. I readily opened an account in yahoo. I could chat with nationals from Brazil, USA and even countries like Puerto rico.
After that, santabanta.com became a favoured destination as it offered spicy bollywood and Hollywood gossips, jokes and most popularly wallpapers of different genres.
But the real madding point came with the launch of ORKUT. The largest online social networking system, as it claims so, Orkut developed a chain link between me and my long forgotten school friends. Picture sharing helped me see how my friends are leading their life. Orkut is the most visited website in all the cyber cafes.During graduation days, net was made available in my home and yup, I saw a site which was founded by James Wales. Nothing fancy, the site is named as WIKIPEDIA. It remains my homepage till this date as it is the depository of knowledge. It is a site which would give any physical encyclopedia a run for its money. Another great thing to happen is YOUTUBE, the ultimate video sharing website. I saw rare videos like the bombing of Hiroshima or interview of Gandhiji. Apart from these, IMDB which stands for the internet movie database has all the information and reviews of virtually every movie, old or new, of any language. The internet also made way to on-line share trading, banking, ticket reservations and many thing more. So the journey with the internet had been an entertaining as well as a learning one. COMBATING NAXALS- WE HAVE THE POWER

Many of us know about the menance of naxalism in India. Nearly every other day, we come across the news that naxalites have destroyed a mobile phone tower or have killed security personnel. But how many of us know what does the word “NAXALISM” means. Well, it refers to the extremist movement started by farmers against feudal system and the government for their lands. This movement started from a place in west Bengal which goes by the name NAXALBARI. So the movement got its name as naxalism. Today, naxalism is a massive extremist process which is spread in the under-developed areas of Orissa, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh where people are still under the scourge of malnutrition in the year 2009 which is called as the e-chip age. Prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh described Naxalism is the biggest internal threat of India. But the question of the hour is whether India can tackle Naxalism or not. I feel the answer is YES. It can be done both economically and by force. While Hyderabad, bhubaneswar, kolkata are becoming the hubs of Information Technology(IT) companies, areas like malkangiri, koraput in Orissa are known for its lack of communication, inaccessibility and malnutrition. Economic development alone can persuade the naxalites to shed arms and live peacefully. The discovery of Chinese made arms and ammunition and the recent revelation of a Pakistani manufactured mineral water pouch alarms us against the involvement of foreign forces behind naxalism. If we go the military way, the recently executed OPERATION NALAMALLA gives us a scale to measure our capability to combat naxalism. In the biggest post independence manhunt in the Indian history to search YSR Reddy, the late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, we saw the deployment of more than 5000 CRPF personnel, greyhound and octopus commandoes, more than a dozen IAF helicopters and a sukhoi jet fitted with laser guided missiles and thermal imaging device. Also the services of an ISRO satellite was used. All this happened in a matter of few hours. If this operation of such high magnitude was undertaken for a search of a head of state, then to combat a 20000 strong naxalism maybe a similar operation with more commandoes would be enough. Especially when CRPF maintains a force of about 2,00,000 infantries. But still maybe a state of war is the last thing India wants as it is going through an economic developmental phase. Better health and education, proper transportation infrastructure and active participation of government and NGOs towards the upliftment of the downtrodden and naxal affected areas both socially and economically are the key to eradicate the plague of naxalism in the Gandhian Way.

NORTH EASTERNERS- ARE THEY NOT INDIANS?

The north east India consists of 7 states called the rainbow states. It includes Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim, Nagaland and Tripura. Also includes assam. The region is very beautiful and at the same time rich in heritage and culture. It has also have an added advantage of having high literacy rate. It shares its border with china, Bangladesh and Myanmar. I had myself been there and was simply awestruck by its beauty and people. But lately some facts really disturbed my mind.
I wondered what people and the government of the Indian Mainland think about these north easterners. Not much good or kind. People in orissa and even some of my educated friends still see them as foreigners just because of their appearance. The people in north India especially in metro like New Delhi which is supposed to be cosmopolitan address the north easterners as “CHINKIS” just as we saw in the movie Chak De India. Chinkis is a term mentioned for small eyes and moreover to Chinese.
This is the type of reaction the north easterners get from the people of their own country that is India. Economic development is nearly nil in those states as it appears to be in the same condition as it was decades ago. No road infrastructure, tourism infrastructure or utility infrastructure. Of course the establishment of Rajiv Gandhi IIM- Shillong was a welcome step but still that is not enough. It looks like the only thing that the government is doing lately is the exploitation of the oil fields at Assam. While India has planned to invest a whooping 2,00,000 crores INR by 2020 to built metro rails in cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, cochin, pune but it has ignored the fact that north eastern states need development. Another startling fact is that the budget of entire Manipur is less than the budget of a single administrative department of Andhra Pradesh. The only time the government shifts its focus to north east India is when china tries to infiltrate. While India is boasting of a robust economic future, it is alienating north east from the rest of India. Jackie chan is more popular than SRK in north east and rock music is popular than bhajans. That’s their uniqueness but it could be the result of isolative attitude which we, ignorant people, of the Indian mainland. I was also disappointed when I came through an article in the net by a north easterner in which the author wrote that maybe it would have been better if they would have been a part of china. It is not wrong in their part to expect something from India as the constitution of India states equal rights to all people. If India continues its step motherly treatment, then maybe that day is not far when China will try to take advantage and a revolt from north east would snap all ties of itself from India. As closing comments, the least I would do is extend my salutations to the beautiful people of north east India who call themselves Indians despite the fact that India has given them not much.

Age of empire is a strategic game in which you get to collect resources, build an empire, gather an ARMY of different type of combat units and defeat your enemies. It was a game which history teachers in USA recommended their students to play. That game launched MICROSOFT GAMES in the mainstream. But the phenomenon which changed our style of play from map based to sandbox(without no limits) is GRAND THEFT AUTO(GTA) series. Another innovative game was THE SIMS which was developed by WILL WRIGHT. Sims is the short for simulation. In this game, you get to create human, their homes and live their life.The launch of alien shooter game HALO 3 saw Microsoft Chairman BILL GATES personally distributing copies in a mall in US because for Microsoft also, gaming means big business and more bucks. Video games have also been inspiration to many movies. There are movies like ANGELINA JOLIE –starrer LARA CROFT,BLOODRAYNE,HITMAN and DISNEY’S soon to be released PRINCE OF PERSIA which are based on video games.Today, gaming is a multi billion dollar industry like the movie industry. There is always high anticipation among the masses when a sequel of any popular franchisee is due to be released. Next generation gaming consoles like SONY PLAYSTATION 3, MICROSOFT XBOX 360 or NINTENDO WII are raking in moolahs with their sales. The graphics are giving the game near realistic type feel to the gamers. And according to NASSCOM, India also will have a billion dollar gaming industry by 10 years. So as MICROSOFT SAYS………..GAME ON.
